Dissolving Lip Fillers

We’ve had many patients who have visited us in the past wanting to have dissolve lip fillers. At Dr Sobia Medispa we can easily dissolve any type of dermal filler, including lip fillers. However firstly it is important for us to understand why a lip filler might need to be dissolved.

Normally it can take between 6-12 months for a lip filler to naturally dissolve. However it for some this might be far too long to wait. There are a number of reasons why someone might want to have their lip fillers ‘reversed’.

It is not uncommon for some people to visit unsafe, inexperienced practitioners elsewhere. This often results in uneven lips and at worst an infection. On other occasions, the result achieved might not be as expected, leaving the person feeling uncomfortable. These are only some reasons why someone might want to dissolve their lip fillers.

Before going down the ‘dissolving route’, there are a number of options to consider. For example uneven lips, can quite often be corrected by gently massaging the area, to help the lip filler spread underneath the skin. Alternatively, a small top up can help smooth out the uneven area.

At first we encourage the patient to return to the practitioner who performed the treatment to make these corrections, as they have a duty of care to deliver a safe and effective treatment. However if all else fails we can dissolve the filler.

If it has been agreed that your lip fillers need dissolving. a product called hyaluronidase in injected to the area of concern.  This boosts the dissolving process. Your body already produces hyaluronidase. This is why which is why dermal fillers are not permanent and need ‘topping up’ after a period. Injecting hyaluronidase further boosts the process to achieve the same result rapidly. The injections dissolves any residual dermal filler and allows for the lips to return to their natural shape.

When dissolving the filler, the treatment area is numbed with a topical anaesthetic and hyaluronidase will be injected at various points. This will immediately kick start the dissolving process, but generally takes around two weeks to fully dissolve, although results can be seen between 3-4 days.

When searching for a Lip Filler practitioner, it is likely that there will be some inexperience and unsafe practitioners. We always encourage you book with a registered, experienced medical practitioner and asks questions about their experience and
